Game which has very less recognition in India

I can’t even say for sure whether people have guessed by now that this game is called “FootBall”. I am not writing this article to spread awareness or show my disappointment. This is just a vision I carry of this game in India and ask questions to people of all ages why football in India hasn’t reached that “world-stage” till now.

Many people will be surprised to learn that the very famous club of Manchester United (of England) was established a few years before the establishment of our very own Mohun Bagan Athletics Football club (Estd. 1889). That was 116 years ago, from where Manchester United has gone on to become the richest and one of the most famous clubs in the world. While, on the other hand, Mohun Bagan, though might have earned some ‘name’ within India, it is still to get that global appeal and bring that ‘consistency factor’ into picture (Note: Mohun Bagan was on the realms of relegation to the second division in the 2004-05 season, but just managed to survive).

Does this mean we are incapable of producing a world-beating national football team or an international standard football club? Are our football icons to be restricted to a Baichung Bhutia who incidentally played for the third division English football club Bury F.C. that too for one season, or an I.M.Vijayan whom people hardly know? When will India produce talents like Ronaldo (Brazil), Zidane (France), Maldini (Italy), or at least a Nakata (Japan) whom young aspirants (sadly, if there are any) can look up to and use their idealistic ways as a stepping stone to their success?

Well of course, at the end of the day, we played well as a “team” and we followed our processes extremely well. Dhoni and his magic continues to sizzle his ardent fanatics. Yeah.. Not fans!

I am actually looking for those predicted extremely correctly that CSK would not be winning this year’s championships, surely! If at all they had invested the confidence they showed in the prediction (CSK WILL NOT WIN IPL4), in their team’s support, I am sure they would have done well.

Whatever emotions that pour out in Bulletin Board is not because of the hate many CSK supporters have towards other teams. At least, I don’t mind watching good cricket, be it from RCB or Mumbai Indians or KKR!! But, the dismissive expressions with such a hate-feel for CSK, got the fanatics going.

Sport is fascinating. What you get is what you dish out to others. This is applicable to all those anti-CSK sentiments and one day, surely the CSK fanatics will also have to go through all this (Yeah.. We know how it felt to lose the IPL 2009 Semi Final in Jo’Burg). It is applicable for those who lose as well as win. The Mighty Caribbean and the Great Australian fall needs no introduction. So, the day is not far off when a new champion will be crowned! But, that is for some time in the future. May be in Sep-Oct 2011 or in Apr-May 2012.

Until then, the YELLOW BRIGADE shall rule the Indian Premier League horizon.

Atleast it takes half a decade for other teams to reach to the level of CSK(ConSistency + peaKing at the right time).

Teams that peaked at the right time(rajastan,dc) are not as consistent as csk and those that are consistent(RCB,delhi,Mumbai) are not rising at the right occasion. To get this combined tag of consistency and champion quality, the hour is quite far for the other sides.

Do you mean this 18,470? Is this my total back links? but why i am 0 zero in Google? I can't understand. In Google ad sense i am earning 12-15 dollars a month only but earning for all my five blogs. my 3 blogs are inactive. I am blogging as usual. Visiting other's blog and commenting. I'll comment 3-4 sites a day only but sometimes non at all but mostly only writing short messages from their tag boards. There is no special procedure to increase my traffic. Actually i was only interested of page rank because i want more paid post. Maybe got that page rank 4 because i made a post more than 30 posts a month. The more post in your site the more visitors if they are interested in your title. One blogger advised me to make your title searchable. If you noticed the title of my post are direct to the point like for example Best Online casino. Best Satellite Internet, Direct TV, Best Platform Bed, Electronic Bingo. I did not do anything more. I received also emails convincing me to join my sites to increase my traffic but I ignored all of them because one blogger posted that her brother's account was totally band by Google because he did something Publish Post to increase this traffic illegally. I don't know which is legal or illegal to increase traffic that is why i am not responding to their offers.

Maybe that back links is already accumulated since April 2008. I am almost two years blogging.

A great evening to have spent with cricket and never expected the sachin 200 and a superb knock I have ever seen. I have long been looking for some one from the world class player to break this record, but Sachin it is. Scoring half the total runs of the team and just faced 147 odd balls. He started well, in middle slowed down a bit but the boundaries coming up all the time. Worls players would be looking wondered and no surprise it came from the little master. Man at 36 years of age, 20 years of world cricket and 93^rd international century. He is hungry for more. His skill level never gone down, whooping score it was. I would remember this knock till my last breathe.

It was a great match to watch out for. Worth watching till late night, Match was evenly poised all through the game. But in the end, Sachin made a flying save of boundary, still South African tail Enders took 3 runs for it. But, according to me, it is a very important save as match ended with India winning by just a run. If Sachin would have not made that great effort, match would have been tied and the series would have changed 0-0 in the end of the first match. Sachin really rocks. Now, India lead the 3 match one day international series against south Africa 1-0. Match of the match was Ravindra Jadeja.

Kung fu Panda – animated action film

I saw this film Kung fu Panda last week with lots of expectations. As my friends said it is really great and worth watching. I generally do not like watching animated film or cartons kind of stuff. But this film was simply superb. It’s about a panda which rescues the city from a enemy. The execution of voices and actions performed by all the creatures in the film is really fabulous to watch. The film has lots and lots of scenes that make you laugh. I never laughed while watching Tom and Jerry, but this film made me laugh in many scenes with some cool performance. Panda learns the art of Kung fu with the other members of the group. It really does not look like an animation, but as if it is happening in the real time. That’s the power of innovation. Climax is about whether or not the panda defeats the enemy. Kung fu Panda is film, well executed animated action film. A must watch for the kids, can have real fun and entertainment.

But that not what we follow, we want to earn money a lot and save for future and keep on thinking of it. I often spend time watching some good films, soccer games, opera and many concerts to keep myself happy and entertained.

Avatar beats Titanic in Box-office

In terms of collection, Avatar beats titanic. I have seen both of these films. Both of them are incredible movies. The time in which avatar overtaken the collection of Titanic is nearly one half of it, it is considered to be a huge margin of success. The main reason of this huge success could be, the film avatar has some great shots and the appearance of shots in many scenes looks simply superb. This film can be best viewed in 3D. The collection for viewing the film in 3D is very high. In multiplex theatres in India, say Bangalore, a ticket viewing n 3D costs Rs1000. Its not even one month of release, that Avatar beat Titanic. The record going to reach the film, where no other more can reach at least for years for sure. I am going to watch this box-office blockbuster Avatar one more time. The collection titanic is in gross $1,843,201,268, whereas Avatar till date, it is $1,858,562,198.

No Pakistan Players in IPL3 – Auctions Over

It is a shocking day for Pakistani players. Not even single players from Pakistan have been sold to any of the franchises of Indian Premier League 3. Considering that the Pakistan players are champions of T20 cricket, at least 5 out of 11 or so Pakistan players from auction will be selected, but all in vain. Afridi said about not being sold, that all the IPL franchises have been warned by the Indian Government not to take any Pakistani players. But Lalit Modi, chairman of IPL said the picking up of players solely depend upon the strategies of individual IPL teams. Also all the 11 players been taken will hold the contract only for one year, since new auctions will be conducted in 1 year (2011). I think the gap between India Pakistan will further widen. IPl 3 auctions are over.

In a darkened theater, you have an audience’s undivided attention. They’re yours — entertain them, move them, make them laugh, make them cry. You can’t find a more powerful medium to express yourself. Nowadays many studio films are based on comic book superheroes (Hulk, Batman, Spiderman), popular TV shows (Get Smart, Sex in the City), best selling books (the Harry Potter series), high concept (unique ideas that have commercial appeal like Jurassic Park, or Journey to the Center of the Earth), and/or big name stars (Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks). Its easy to become a filmmaker, essential thing required is interest and involvement and understanding and grasping capability.

In the Seventeenth Century Chess flourished mostly in Italy, which consequently produced the strongest players. At that time Chess was in high esteem, especially at the courts of the kings who followed the example of Philip the Second of Spain in honoring the traveling masters and rewarding them liberally for their exhibition matches. Towards the beginning of the Eighteenth Century the game reached a high stage of development in France, England and Germany. The most famous master of the time was the Frenchman, Andre Philidor, who for more than forty years easily maintained his supremacy over all players with whom he came in contact, and whose fame has evolved. Since then, he has been equaled only by the American Champion, Paul Morphy, and by the German, Emanuel Lasker. During the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries the number of players who obtained international fame increased rapidly, and in 1851, due to the efforts of the English Champion Staunton, an international tournament was held in London to determine the championship of Europe. It was won by the German master Anderssen, who maintained his leading place for the following fifteen years, until he was beaten by the youthful Morphy. The latter, at twenty years of age, was the first American master to visit Europe and defeated in brilliant style all European masters whom he met. Morphy withdrew from the game after his return to America and did not try to match himself with the Bohemian Steinitz, who in the meantime had beaten Anderssen, too, and who had come to America.

Chemical shift results in artifact in the frequency-encoded direction, and motion results in artifact in the phase-encoded direction. Other methods that sample the central and peripheral regions of k-space simultaneously, rather than sequentially in a grid, radio acquisition can reduce these artifacts. Other patterns or trajectories of k-space sampling include radial, spiral, and PROPELLER imaging. PROPELLER fast spin-echo is a radial k-space filling technique. A range of ultra-low-resolution images are acquired, one per repetition time, with as many phase-encoding steps as echoes in the echo train length (ETL). Each of these scans corresponds to a different rotational direction within the scan plane. Since the data are collected in a series of rectangular strips, serially rotating around central k-space, central k-space is repeatedly sampled. The data set looks like a freeze-frame photograph of a rotating propeller, with the hub located in the center of k-space. Data reconstruction then combines these different data collections in the image domain and corrects or even rejects (based on relative phase information) data acquisitions that are degraded by motion. The resulting final image is relatively free of motion artifact imaging and radio acquisition. Also, of particular benefit to musculoskeletal imaging, radial scanning produces fully isotropic in-plane resolution with no frequency and phase direction. Consequently, chemical shift radio acquisition and pulsatile flow artifacts are diffused across the whole image plane, so these artifacts are far less discernible than with Cartesian imaging

For the man and the woman too, Chess is well worth learning, as it will prove the best companion in hours of leisure. The reason why many people hesitate to learn the game and to teach it to their children is that Chess has been misrepresented as a game which is very difficult to master. This false impression has been created mainly by the wrong methods of teaching usually employed. The majority of writers on Chess deal with a maze of variations and they expect the reader to memorize the moves with which to parry the maneuvers of the opponent, instead of simply developing a few common sense principles which are easy to grasp and perfectly sufficient to make a good player of any one. This is really the great advantage of the game of Chess over any other board game that it lends itself to the application of general principles, so that any one can grasp and enjoy it without memorizing more than the rules according to which the men move. I have tried to develop these principles in a simple way so that they are sure to be easily understood, and I have been greatly aided in my task by Miss Helen Dvorak and Mr. Eugene Fuller, who, without any previous knowledge of the game, have learned it in reading this article. They have given me many valuable hints in pointing out all that did not seem readily intelligible to the mind of the beginner. In explaining the game of Checkers, to which the second part of the book is devoted, I have also tried to develop general principles of strategy, rather than to offer a mere classification of analyzed lines of play, which the reader would have to memorize in order to be able to compete with experts. Although peripheral joints offer intrinsic rich soft tissue contrast the anatomy is often complex, with small structures, many of which course in oblique planes. High-resolution imaging of the small-scale anatomy of menisci, labra, carpal bones, and articular cartilage demand 2D multislice sequences with in-plane resolution of at least 0.5 mm (preferably 0.2 to 0.3 mm), with a slice thickness of 1 to 3 mm .The many soft tissue interfaces inherent to musculoskeletal anatomy and morphology also present challenges to successful imaging. Changes in magnetic susceptibility can occur at the interfaces between cartilage, cortical bone, and bone marrow. Therefore the Musculoskeletal Imaging whose Technical Advances, when placed in a magnetic field, these interfaces generate abrupt changes in local magnetic field gradients, creating a faster signal decay due to spin-spin dephasing (T2*). In addition, patients may have metallic prostheses or postsurgical metallic debris, which produce additional magnetic susceptibility artifacts.Fat, both in subcutaneous tissues and bone mar row, may also present imaging problems. The hyperintense signal of fat on conventional T1-weighted and proton density-weighted sequences can ob scure underlying pathology. In addition, at fat-water in terfaces, there may be a chemical shift artifact that degrades images. Finally, musculoskeletal soft tis sues have relatively short T2 relaxation times due to their highly organized molecular structure in fiber networks. The T2 relaxation of tendons and ligaments is in the range of a few milliseconds (msec) Technical Advances; that of cartilage is 10 to 30 msec. These structures also show a significant variation in T2 relaxation based on their physical orientation to the main magnetic field. When fibers form an angle of 55 degrees from the main magnetic field, T2 time be comes longer, generating a hyperintense signal.

The RJ-45 modular connectors you find on 10/100Base-T Ethernet cables are potential static electricity problems. If you have one end plugged into a computer or switch, but the other end isn’t connected, that open end is a direct path for static electricity to the sensitive electronics at the other end. The cable jacket is always insulated, so it doesn’t drain away the static charge. However, if you pick up the cable and even brush against the exposed contacts, any built-up charge goes straight down the cable. We’ve seen many switch ports fail from just this sort of accident, so pay attention when you’re connecting and disconnecting Ethernets. My best ideas come to me early in the day, before I’ve actually gotten out of bed. That is when I’m in that non sleep world, but not entirely awake either. This twilight world is a perfect place for coming up with clear and original ideas. (Although, unless you write them down immediately, they don’t stay clear for long, and you usually forget them when you’re up and about!) I find that keeping an ideas book next to my bed can work well for these circumstances. You can just scrawl your thoughts down in a few words, keeping your eyes closed if you like, so that you get enough of the thoughts and impressions down before full consciousness eventually obliterates them. Not every piece of video needs fancy effects. In fact, most video is probably better without a Dream filter and Picture-in-Picture. The unadulterated stuff straight from your camera usually looks best. In fact, if your footage needs any help at all, it’s probably in the cameraman department. Don’t take this personally. Handheld shots, the most common kind of home video, are notoriously unstable, and that’s an instant giveaway that you’re an amateur. You can have the hands of a surgeon and still end up with shaky footage. This is true even with all the newfangled image stabilization technology that comes in the latest cameras. Don’t give up (and don’t resort to carrying a tripod everywhere). iMovie ’09 can stabilize your video after the fact, using one of its most amazing new features. That’s not the only way iMovie can fix your footage, either. The Video Adjustments panel lets you make slight or gigantic changes to the brightness, contrast, white balance, saturation, and other image qualities of any clip. For example, if a shot looks too dark and murky, you can bring details out of the shadows without blowing out the highlights. If the snow in a skiing shot looks too bluish, you can de-blue it. If the colors don’t pop quite enough in the prize-winning soccer goal shot, you can boost their saturation levels.

After you have the video content you want to make into a bootable movie, you need to create an ISO image to later burn to a CD or DVD. You do that with the mkmovixiso command. Here’s an example: # mkmovixiso -t “2005 Vacation” -o movix_vacation.iso movie.avi Your iso image is now in “/home/user/movix/movix_vacation.iso You can safely delete temporary directory /tmp/movix-110602496 In this example, the video content is named movie.avi in the current directory. You can add as many AVI files as will fit on the medium (they will play one after the other, by default). The title (2005 Vacation in this case) is entered after the -t option and is used as the Volume ID tag on the image. The title must be less than 32 characters. The name of the ISO image file follows the -o option (in this case, movix_vacation.iso). The ISO image is created here using many default options. Step 1: Preparing Your Wire Prongs

Each radio frequency has a specific wavelength. To function as an antenna, the dipole loop has

to be half the length of that wavelength. Take your needle-nosed pliers and carefully straighten four large paper clips.

Step 2: Preparing Your Antenna Platform

Carefully mark on the wooden platform the five places where the wires of your antenna will be

passing through. See Figure 2-14 for hole spacing for the paperclips. This design is optimally tuned for reception on Wi-Fi Channel 6 (the approximate middle of the frequency band). It will also work on the other Wi-Fi channels. But if you really want to get peak frequencies, paperclip length and distance apart from each other will differ for each channel. Using your hand drill, drill the five holes using a drill bit slightly smaller than the paperclip wires. Platform can

Step 3: Creating Your Dipole

Take the longest wire (the one that is 4.52 inches long) and form it to match the template in

Take your needle-nosed pliers and make a line on the nose at the point where it is 0.16 inches

(4 mm) thick. Clamp the largest wire with the pliers and make a bend that starts 1.3 inches

from one end,. Slowly wrap the paper clip wire around the needle nose, creating a fishhook that

is 0.16 inches wide (4 mm). Carefully press the longest end of the fishhook through the first appropriate hole on your platform.Work the wire into the hole, until the second end comes up to its appropriate hole. Be careful not to snip off the smaller end of the pigtail, which needs to be attached to your laptop wireless card. Strip off about three-fourths of the outer insulating jacket and the inner dielectric insulation surrounding the core conductor. You will need about 1/4 inch of the central core free, to create a soldered connection to one end of the dipole. And you will twist about 3/4 inch of the outer shield into a tight coil in order to solder it to the other end of the dipole.

Step 5: Soldering the Pigtail to the Dipole

Put the bent paperclip dipole in a stable grip, either in a small tabletop vice, or in a pair of vise grips. Don’t touch the paperclip or the solder iron while you work on this, both will be very hot. Be sure to wear eye protection because splattering solder can cause serious eye damage. Also, the solder resin causes some fumes that can damage your lungs, so make sure your workspace is ventilated to avoid any unhealthy buildup of vapors. Carefully solder the core conductor and the shield to either end of the bent dipole radiator Both sides of the paperclip need to be soldered to the pigtail, but they must not touch each other or the antenna will be useless. When you choose a mounting platform, plan ahead to prevent the ends from touching.

Step 6: Securing the Pigtail

Run the pigtail cable alongside the wooden platform (as shown in Figure 2-20). Use small

drops of glue or some tape to fix the first inch of insulation firmly to the wooden platform. Zip ties or plastic bundle-ties also work great. Just don’t use anything made of metal or antenna

characteristics could change. Do not use metal twist-ties to secure the pigtail. Twist-ties are often used to bundle cables together in consumer electronics, especially with wireless networking gear. The metal inside the twist-tie may adversely affect the antenna properties. Use a nonconducting

plastic or glue for best results. This will guarantee that the fragile soldered connections do not need to bear the weight of the antenna, and will help prevent breakage when the antenna is moved relative to the laptop.

Step 7: Inserting the Antenna Elements

Insert the remaining three wires in their appropriate locations as “elements.” The prongs

don’t need to be centered on the platform, but it is best to center them in relationship to

each other. Touch each wire with a drop of glue where it passes through the platform, just to hold

the wires in place.

When a transmission problem arises in a Wi-Fi system, the first place to look is at the cables and connectors. Connectors generally take the most physical stress in a system, and also can be the first piece to break down while operating in poor conditions. The middle of the cable or the inside of an antenna is less likely to sustain damage if stressed when compared to the cable ends and connectors. This is where simple cable testing can be of great value to troubleshoot a system.To check for continuity and for shorts, use the ohm-meter function on a multimeter.Test the entire lengthof the cable through each connector.

1. Check for continuity from center pin to center pin. This should be a short or zero ohms.

2. Check from connector body to connector body. This should be a short or zero ohms.

3. Check from center pin to connector body. This should be open or infinite ohms.

Often when you’re testing a cable, it’s already installed on-site, which limits access to the cable

ends. To get around this, disconnect both ends of the cable and short the center pin to the connector body on one end only. Then measure resistance of the pin to the body on the other end. The resistance should still be zero ohms (or very close). For the unlimited budget, products like a time domain reflectometer (TDR), spectrum analyzer, RF Power meter, and network analyzer can be used to test entire transmission systems, including the cable. These usually cost several thousand dollars to buy and hundreds to rent. If the connector is presumed bad, replacing it is often much less costly than extensive testing. And very often, the only way to fix a bad connector is to replace it and start over.

Measuring Performance of Antenna - simple work

Step 1: Measuring the Distance to the Opening

As mentioned earlier, measuring the distance to the opening is critical to the operation and efficiency of the antenna. The old saying “measure twice and cut once” is also true here. But

instead, remember to “measure twice and drill once.” When you measure this distance, disregard the bottom lip of the can. This crimped edge of the can has no influence on the interior workings of the waveguide. You are only interested in the bottom material of the can, which becomes the back of your can antenna.

Step 2: Starting Small

There are several ways to get the hole for the N-Connector the right size. The method you use

is up to you. The final hole should be the diameter of the N-Connector stem.

In one method you can drill a small hole and work your way up to the desired hole size.

Another method, which is more time-consuming, is to use a nail to make the initial of the can. The can should stay completely round.

Step 3: Preparing for the Connector

There are different types of N-Connectors that you can use for this project. The type does not really matter. As you can see from Figure 3-8, our connector had four screw holes (one at each corner). The best way to ensure that the connector is installed properly is to insert it into the opening you created in Step 2, line it up, and mark out the holes for the four mounting screws. Once this is done, you can drill them with a drill of the same diameter as the mounting screws.

Step 4: Finishing the Hole

The final step in preparing the N-Connector hole is cleaning it. Using a small file, make sure that there are no edges or burrs around the openings. This will ensure a tight fit when the connector is inserted and connected to the coffee can.

Measuring Line Loss in Decibels

The concept of decibel measurement, or dB, is covered more in Chapter 2. But for now, it’s easy to think of it as the higher the number, the stronger the signal. Remember that negative numbers descend as they get higher. Transmission line loss is represented as negative dB. Wi-Fi radio transceiver effectiveness is described as a measurement of power output and receive sensitivity. Generally, these two measurements are expressed as power in milliwatts (expressedas mW, meaning 1/1000 of a watt) or as “dBm” (decibels related to 1 mW). Decibel measurement can be confusing. But there are two key concepts to make this easy to understand:

_ Decibels are relationship-oriented

_ Decibels double by threes

Relationship-oriented means that there is no set value for a dB. The trailing letter in a dB measurement defines the relationship. For example, dBm means decibels related to 1 mW of power. 1 dBm equals 1 mW.When you know the value of the relationship, decibels are easy to calculate. Doubling by threes is due to the logarithmic nature of RF energy. When comparing a signal of 1 dBm (1 mW) to a signal of 3 dBm (2 mW) you see that it’s double the power. This doubling nature of power measurement or line loss makes it easy to see how a cable can quickly reduce the RF signal to almost nothing.

Preparing the Can Antenna

It’s time to get the can ready to be converted into a directional antenna. You can do this in two

steps: preparation and cleaning.

Step 1: Preparing the Can Opening

The coffee can you purchased probably has a plastic cover on the top and a metal cover protecting the coffee freshness. Remove the plastic lid and put it aside; you will use it later. You will also want to make sure that the can itself is intact with no indentations. Most cans will have ridges around the circumference of the can which are okay; you just want to make sure that it has not been dropped or mishandled. These indentations or dents can affect the efficiency of the can. The coffee can will be sealed in one of two ways. With many of the older coffee cans, you needed to open the can with a can opener and discard the removed lid. If this is the coffee can you have, make sure that you grind down or file the inside edge of the can so that it is smooth. If it’s a newer can, it will have a thick tin foil covering with a ring to pull the cover off. Simply

remove the cover and discard it.

Step 2: Cleaning the Can

While having coffee grounds in the antenna will not affect its operation much, it sure can make

a mess of things, so make sure that you clean the can out well. Also make sure that you clean

the opening of any foreign objects, such as glue, pieces of the original tin or tin foil cover. Where to Drill We will be using a copper wedge as the driven element or radiator. The location and length of this element is extremely important. Although we will not be going too deep into the math here, it’s important to understand where this driven element is to be installed. The rule of thumb is that the driven element should be at one quarter of the “closed-space wavelength” from the inside edge of the can when the connector is installed. The difficulty here is that the closed-space wavelength will vary based on can and radiator dimensions. On our can, with an inner diameter of 100 mm, this offset was slightly more than 1 inch or 27 mm. Once you have this measurement, it is time to prepare the hole in the can where the

N-Connector is to be installed.

Because shaky footage sneaks into the middle of clips, many of your Event clips will be split into smaller pieces as a result, but it’s not permanent. Click the button again, turning the gray line red, to make the shaky footage reappear. Your clips are whole once more.

Histogram - up to speed

Learning to use the Video Adjustments panel effectively involves learning about its histogram, the colorful little graph at the top of the panel. The histogram is a self-updating visual representation of the dark and light tones that make up your video clip. If you’ve never encountered a histogram before, this may sound complicated. But the histogram is a terrific tool, and it’ll make more sense the more you work with it. Within each of the superimposed graphs (red, blue, and green), the scheme is the same: The clip’s darker shades appear toward the left side of the graph; the lighter tones are graphed on the right side. Therefore, in a very dark clip—a coalmine at midnight, say—you’ll see big mountain peaks at the left side of the graph, trailing off to nothing toward the right. A shot of a brilliantly sunny snowscape, on the other hand, will show lots of information on the right, and very little on the left. The best-balanced shots have some data spread across the entire histogram, with a few mountain-shaped peaks here and there. Those peaks and valleys represent the really dark spots and bright spots. Those mountains are fine, as long as you have some visual information in other parts of the histogram, too.

Wireless Fidelity - unexpected speed

Wireless networking is accomplished by sending a signal from one computer to another over radio waves. The most common form of wireless computing today uses the IEEE 802.11b standard. This popular standard, also called Wi-Fi or Wireless Fidelity, is now supported directly by newer laptops and PDAs, and most computer accessory manufacturers. It’s so popular that “big box” electronics chain stores carry widely used wireless hardware and networking products. Wi-Fi is the root of a logo and branding program created by the Wi-Fi Alliance. A product that uses the Wi-Fi logo has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance to fulfill certain guidelines for interoperability. Logo certification programs like this one are created and promoted to assure users that products will work together in the marketplace. So, if you buy a Proxim wireless client adapter with the Wi-Fi logo branding, and a Linksys access point with the same logo on the product, they should work together. The IEEE 802.11b Wi-Fi standard supports a maximum speed of 11 megabits per second (Mbps). The true throughput is actually something more like 6 Mbps, and can drop to less than 3 Mbps with encryption enabled. Newer standards like 802.11a and the increasingly popular 802.11g support higher speeds up to 54 Mbps. So why is 802.11b so popular? Because it was first and it was cheap. Even 3 Mbps is still much faster than you normally need to use the Internet. A megabit is one million binary digits (bits) of data. Network speed is almost always measured in bits per second (bps). It takes 8 bits to make a byte. Bytes are used mostly to measure file size (as in files on a hard disk). A megabyte is about 8 million bits of data. Don’t confuse the term megabyte for megabit or you will come out 8 million bits ahead. The 802.11a standard, which operates in the 5 GHz frequency band, is much faster than 802.11b, but never caught on, partly because of the high cost initially and partly because of the actual throughput in the real-world conditions of a deployed wireless network.

Building Your Own Wi-Fi Antenna Cable

Think back to the olden days, say three or four years ago, when computers were tied to the desk with a phone line or network cord. Surfing the Web, reading e-mail, or checking your PetCam meant plugging in, jacking in, or getting wired. Now just about any device can be “unwired” to use a wireless network. You still need electricity though, so batteries or power cords are still in the picture. At least for a little while. Ironically, wireless seems to use twice as many cables as wired connections. This wireless paradox arrives in the form of extra power cords, antenna cables, pigtail jumper cables, and Ethernet patch cables. One critical component to a successful wireless project is the antenna cable, used to extend the reach of the radio to the antenna. This will show how to build an antenna cable for use with many of the projects in this book. You can purchase this type of cable in pre-defined lengths from online sources. However, building your own antenna cable is easy and can take less than 5 minutes. The instructions in this chapter apply to a Wi-Fi coaxial antenna cable (also called coax). The steps in this can be adjusted to apply to any type of coaxial cable, like that used in cable televisions.

You will need the following items:

Some of these items are specific to building an antenna cable (crimp tools, connectors, and soon). Don’t worry if they are unfamiliar to you. In the later posts, I will explain in detail about all the processing. Right now collect all the above posts.

Wi-fi advancements

The store shelves are flooded with Wi-Fi access points, clients, music players, network hubs, and printers, and myriad other consumer devices sport Wi-Fi access. Take the Xbox, Play station 2, and TiVo—these all have Wi-Fi ability now. Remember when people were saying how everything in the house will eventually be wired? How anything from a toaster or refrigerator to a stereo system or television would have Internet access? Well, it’s been some time coming, but with wireless in the home, these are now possibilities. Refrigerators are being sold with Wi-Fi connections, and several products will now connect your digital media from your computer to your television over Wi-Fi. I wonder when my toaster will send me a wireless e-mail when the toast pops ? Wireless is awesome, but it is also somewhat limited.

Two Stabilization Weaknesses

In fact, two common distortions that come from camera shake are unfixable. And iMovie makes these distortions look worse because it takes away the shake they like to hide in. The first distortion is Motion Blur. Unless you have a camera that shoots at really high frame rates, it’s possible to swing your camera around so fast that the pixels actually become blurred. Although iMovie can stabilize the frames relative to each other, it can’t sharpen the blurriness in individual frames. When you play back stabilized footage with blurry frames, it looks like the camera is moving in and out of focus. The second distortion, Video Jelly, can arise when you shoot with a camera that contains a so-called CMOS lightsensor chip. Some still cameras, like the Nikon D90, and many newer AVCHD cameras, contain this sort of chip. Unfortunately, CMOS cameras use a rolling shutter, which means the sensor data starts recording at the top of the sensor working down to the bottom, really fast. If the camera is moving too much during filming, the subject gradually shifts left or right during that pass down the sensor.

“Internet without wires”. Think about that for a minute. All of the entertainment, utility and performance of the Internet of yours without being tied to a desk. Without even being tied to the home or office. Internet without wires...anywhere! Wireless is a growing revolution changing the way people communicate and share ideas. From cell phones to PDAs to mobile computers, wireless access puts you instantly in touch with millions of other people around the planet. Wi-Fi, in particular, is changing how people access the Internet from laptops and PDAs. It’s emerging as an alternative for cellular service, and it may even replace regular telephone lines as voice conversations begin to be re-routed over Wi-Fi networks in larger numbers. Wi-Fi is that subset of wireless communications designed for high-speed Internet access. Sometimes simply referred to as “wireless,” or known by its many-lettered specification IEEE 802.11b, a, g, and so on, Wi-Fi allows compatible devices to connect without cables or physical connections. With speeds far in excess of most cable modem, DSL, and even T1 service, Wi-Fi is rapidly becoming the standard for Internet access.

The History of Chess

The game of Chess in the form in which it is played to-day is usually assumed to be of a much older date than can be proved with certainty by documents in our possession. The earliest reference to the game is contained in a Persian romance written about 600 A.D., which ascribes the origin of Chess to India. Many of the European Chess terms used in the Middle Ages which can be traced back to the Indian language also tend to prove that India is the mother country of the game. We are, therefore, fairly safe in assuming that Chess is about 1300 years old. Of course we could go farther, considering that the Indian Chess must have been gradually developed from simpler board games. Indeed we know from a discovery in an Egyptian tomb built about 4000 B.C. that board games have been played as early as 6000 years ago; but we have no way of finding out their rules. The game of Chess spread from India to Persia, Arabia and the other Moslem countries, and it was brought to Europe at the time of the Moorish invasion of Spain. It also reached the Far East, and games similar to Chess still exist in Japan, China, Central and Northern Asia, the names and rules of which prove that they descended from the old Indian Chess. It would be going beyond the limit of this summary of the history of Chess if I tried to give even an outline of the extremely interesting part Chess has played in French, English and German literature from the Middle Ages up to the present time. Suffice it to mention that Chess literature by far exceeds that of all other games combined. More than five thousand volumes on Chess have been written and weekly or monthly magazines solely devoted to Chess are published in all countries, so that Chess has, so to speak, become an international, universal language.
